Special Issue of the International Journal
                 of Web Services Research (IJWSR)

On Web Services Discovery and Composition Systems

Using service-oriented computing approaches (i.e. web services), the
capabilities of organizations can be openly exposed, easily searched
and discovered, and made readily-accessible to humans and
particularly to machines. Artificial intelligence and software
engineering researchers alike are intrigued by the promise of
ubiquitously discovering and incorporating services into their own
business processes (i.e. composition and orchestration). With
growing acceptance of service-oriented computing, an emerging area
of research is the investigation of technologies that will enable
the discovery and composition of web services.

This proposed special issue solicits high-quality papers on software
components and/or intelligent agents that can discover pertinent web
services and compose them to create higher-level functionality. For
this special issue, all the submitted manuscripts will undergo a
rigorous peer-reviewing process and the selection criteria include
both the system design's elegancy as well as its practicability.
Each manuscript should include the evaluation section on the
effectiveness of the proposed approach based on a given Web services
repository. Repositories and example software are available at
http://ws- challenge.georgetown.edu/ . Alternatively, authors may
submit the repository used in their evaluation. This will provide a
uniform section in each paper that will allow readers to understand
the benefits and limitations of the variety of approaches that were
implemented.

The readers of this special issue will get an understanding of the
benefits and limitations of various approaches for composing web
services using Web Service Description Language (WSDL) files. Paper
submissions should be full research papers, typically between 17-27
journal pages.

ACM Symposium on Software Visualization -- SOFTVIS '06

                        September 4-5, 2006
                            Brighton, UK

                  http://www.softvis.org/softvis06

Software visualization encompasses the development and evaluation of
methods for graphically representing different aspects of software,
including its structure, its abstract and concrete execution, and
its evolution. The goal of this symposium is to provide a forum for
researchers from different backgrounds (HCI, software engineering,
programming languages, visualization, computer science education) to
discuss and present original research on software visualization.

Over the years SOFTIVS has become the premier venue for presenting
all types of research on software visualization. After SOFTVIS03 in
San Diego, and SOFTVIS05 in St. Louis, the third iteration of this
conference series will be co-located with the IEEE Symposium on
Visual Languages and Human-Centric Computing and with the Psychology
of Programmers Interest Group (PPIG) Workshop in Brighton, UK.

Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to, the
following:

    - Visualization of algorithms and programs
    - Visualization "beyond programs", eg: software design, database
      schemas, software process, security, debugging.
    - Software visualization in education
    - Integration of software visualization tools with development
      environments
    - Graph drawing algorithms for software visualization
    - Empirical evaluation of software visualization system
      effectiveness

                  http://www.iit.cnr.it/iTrust2006

The iTrust international Conference looks at trust from
multidisciplinary perspectives: economic, legal, psychology,
philosophy, sociology, as well as information technology.

Building upon the work of the IST iTrust working group
(http://www.itrust.uoc.gr) and the success of the three previous
iTrust International conferences, the aims of iTrust'2006 are to
attract a critical mass of experts from industry, government, and
academia with a keen interest in the area of trust management.

The objectives of the Conference are:

    - To facilitate the cross-disciplinary investigation of
fundamental issues underpinning computational trust models by
bringing together expertise from technology oriented sciences,
      law, philosophy and social sciences.
    - To facilitate the emergence of widely acceptable trust
management processes for dynamic open systems and
      applications.
    - To facilitate the development of new paradigms in the area of
dynamic open systems which effectively utilize computational
      trust models.
    - To facilitate the integration of new trust management
paradigms and emerging architectures for Grid computing and
      Virtual Organizations.
    - To help the incorporation of trust management elements into
      existing standards.

Topics of Interest:

Full technical papers contributing to the issue of trust management
are solicited in relevant areas, including but not limited to:

    - The legal notion of trust in computer science and engineering
    - Requirements and methodologies to ensure that the user can
reasonably trust the functioning of software systems
    - Trust management frameworks for secure collaborations in
      dynamic Virtual Organizations
    - Design of trust-based architectures and decision-making
mechanisms for e-community and e-service interactions
    - Trust specification, analysis, and reasoning
    - Dynamics of trust dispositions and relations
    - Realization of prototypes of software architectures and
      applications
    - Trust elements in contract negotiation, execution monitoring,
      re- negotiation and arbitration
    - Legal contribution to trust in technological infrastructures
and interactions: the on-line identification of subjects, the
evaluation of their reliability, data protection, security,
privacy and, confidentiality, commercial transactions, the
resolution of disputes, software agents, and management of
      access to source code
    - Trust in interaction and cooperation mediated through computer
and network, and the balance of control and intervention
    - Research in on-line trust, the trust of the consumer towards
the web sites of distribution companies - Analysis of the
relationship between trust and such notions as confidence,
distrust, diffidence, expectation, risk, and reliance
    - The economics of trust, privacy and security

               New Section on Software Architecture,
                  Journal of Systems and Software

The idea that the front end of the software development process
offers great leverage for producing good software has become
accepted wisdom in the academic and industrial communities. A
software architecture, reflecting the earliest and most far-reaching
design decisions about a system, epitomizes this wisdom. Over the
past several years software architecture has become an important
ingredient in successful software system development. Consequently,
the Journal of Systems and Software has introduced a new section
focusing on innovations in this field. Our goal is to publish
quality papers in this special section in every issue.

The Software Architecture Section provides a platform for academic
and industrial research in software architecture. Software
architecture reflects the earliest and most far-reaching design
decisions about a system.

Authors submitting papers in software architectures to the Journal
through the web site (http://ees.elsevier.com/jss) should direct
them to Hans van Vliet or Paul Clements for editing. We look forward
to receiving quality contributions from researchers in software
architectures.
